Stena Carron v Greenpeace

An interesting stand off is taking place in the waters off Bressay this evening as activists from the Greenpeace movement spend their first night attached to the Stena Carron drillship.

This morning two men and one woman climbed up the anchor chain of the drillship to try and delay the sailing of her for waters north of Shetland where she is due to start exploration work in deep water in search of oil and gas reserves.

The Greenpeace vessel Esperanza is now shadowing the situation, and Chevron the charterer of the Stena Carron have asked Greenpeace to call off their protest.

Most comments by local people have been anti-greenpeace, so it remains to be seen what if anything this action will achieve in the long run.

Updates when available.
